Youth Latin Solos

Open to any Youth Latin Soloist.

Requirements
- Competitors perform one at a time to their own music.
- Music to be between 1.15 – 1.45 minutes and must meet the music guidelines.

- This category is for Amateur Youth Latin Soloists 17 years or under.
- Dancers can only compete once in the Youth Latin Solo category (dancers may also compete in the Youth Salsa Solo division).

- All Competitors must be 17 years or older.
- Couples perform on the dance floor together to DJ selected music.
- Couples perform to 2 pieces of Salsa music approximately 1.30 – 2.00 minutes long.

Kizomba Freestyle

Open to any Amateur or Semi-Pro dancer.

- All competitors must be Amateur or Semi-Pro dancers.
- All Competitors must be 17 years or older.
- Couples perform on the dance floor together to DJ selected music.
- Couples perform to 2 pieces of Kizomba music between approximately 1.30 – 2.00 minutes long.

- Dips (where both dancers at least 1 foot on the ground), drops and Individual Shines are allowed. Dancers are advised to use these sparingly and to fit with the music.

Amateur/Intermediate Zouk Freestyle

Open to any Amateur Zouk dancer. Dancers cannot enter more than one Freestyle Zouk category.

- All Competitors must be Amateur dancers.
- All Competitors must be 17 years or older.
- Couples perform on the dance floor together to DJ selected music.
- Couples perform to 2 pieces of Zouk music between approximately 1.30 – 2.00 minutes long.

This category is for Amateur Zouk Dancers Only. 

 

Dancers cannot enter more than one Freestyle Zouk category.

Section Description

Please read the judging guidelines and general Freestyle Section Rules.
 
The judges will be looking for a good understanding of Brazilian Zouk timing/rhythm, partnering, lead and follow, presentation and musicality as well as creativity & performance factor. 

For the Amateur freestyle the judges will be looking for a solid understanding of Brazilian Zouk Essential Movements including Passo Básico, Viradinha, Lateral, Soltinho, Bônus, Bônus Invertido, Elástico and Yo-yo.
 
There are no restrictions on the combinations/moves being used.
- Lifts/tricks are NOT allowed. 
- Dips (where both dancers keep at least 1 foot on the ground), drops, head/body isolations and Individual Shines are allowed. Dancers are advised to use these sparingly and to fit with the music.
- Excessive choreography will be penalised

Please note heel caps must be worn on the dance floor at all times!
 

 

Open Zouk Freestyle

Open to any Zouk dancer. Dancers cannot enter more than one Freestyle Zouk category.

Requirements

- All Competitors must be 17 years or older.
- Couples perform on the dance floor together to DJ selected music.
- Couples perform to 2 pieces of Zouk music approximately 1.30 – 2.00 minutes long.

This category is for any Zouk dancer.

Section Description

Please read the judging guidelines and general Freestyle Section Rules.
 
The judges will be looking for a good understanding of Brazilian Zouk timing/rhythm, partnering, lead and follow, presentation and musicality as well as creativity & performance factor.
 
There are no restrictions on the combinations/moves being used. Competitors will need to display a good understanding of the fundamental Brazilian Zouk movements (see Amateur category rules).
- Lifts are NOT allowed. Assisted jumps (where both feet remain below the leads waist) are allowed.
- Dips (where both dancers keep at least 1 foot on the ground), drops, head/body isolations and Individual Shines are allowed. Dancers are advised to use these sparingly and to fit with the music.
- Excessive choreography will be penalised

Pro/Am Salsa Freestyle

Open to any couple with an Amateur and a Professional Dancer.

Requirements
- All couples must contain one Amateur and one professional dancer.
- All Competitors must be 17 years or older.
- Couples perform on the dance floor together to DJ selected music.
- Couples perform to 2 pieces of Salsa music approximately 1.30 – 2.00 minutes long.

Entry Restrictions

This category is for couples comprising one Amateur Salsa Dancer and one Professional Salsa dancer.

- Open to either Salsa or Latin Dance styles
